What Is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing separates makeup and residue removal from the second cleansing step, so the skin can feel clean without turning the routine into noise.

The idea

The first cleanse is usually focused on dissolving makeup, sunscreen and daily residue. The second cleanse refreshes the skin surface and prepares it for the rest of the routine.

Why it feels disciplined

A two-step cleanse is not about doing more for its own sake. It creates order: remove, cleanse, then move into hydration or treatment steps with a clearer canvas.

How to keep it gentle

Use comfort as a signal. Skin should not feel tight, stripped or rushed. If the routine feels excessive, reduce frequency, use a milder second cleanse or keep the oil cleanse only for days with heavier sunscreen or makeup.

When it may not be needed

Double cleansing is a framework, not a rule for every face every night. On lighter days, a single comfortable cleanse may be enough. The point is to match the cleanse to what is actually on the skin.
